Television Software Development / Programming One of the fundamental objectives of Syncline films is to produce and promote quality non-fiction programming for Indian as well as international television channels. We aim to achieve this through collaborating with independent filmmakers, organizations or even passionate individuals who have an interesting story to tell or an idea to share. In the making of our films, we seek to explore the experience of people living on the many different margins of society and to bring their perspectives to a wider audience in order to dispel myths, counter stereotypes, and give an insight into the complexity of cultural identities and just about life and its nuances!!
A few of our recent initiatives are –
The Last of the Boatyards An hour-long documentary is an attempt to trace the origins of the boat making industry, which flourished during 17th century in the small town of Beypore in the southern state of Kerala. According to a few historians, Hebrews who immigrated to India’s southern coasts might have introduced the tools to cut and transport huge logs of wood, which were used in building big boats known as ‘Uru’. The film will document the hand crafting of this mammoth, 135 feet long and 40 feet wide Uru. Intertwined with the history of the boats the documentary takes you through the myth surrounding them, the most fascinating being these were used in the battle of Waterloo. Also, exploring the reason for decline of the ancient craft and the tragedy of Beypore, which remains moored in age-old traditions.  Zapped!! Zapped is a fast paced documentary about Andrew McNally, a promising street magician from Britain who is captivated by India’s contemporary spirit. He romanticizes to entertain the Indian audience by involving them in his tricks and in the process discover a thing or two about the country and its people. This amusing fun documentary explores the plethora of emotions that Andrew goes through while he moves around in the chaos of Indian streets. Amazingly, through the end of his travels, some of the incredible experiences make him reflect back on his ambitions and his purpose in life.
